Day Five Challenge: Brain Dump

Have you ever had too many tabs open on your computer? Too many pages up at once that when you go to do a task on one thing everything locks up and takes fifty times longer had you cleared up some space? Our mind works in a similar way. When life gets busy it’s harder to prioritize, remember things and THINK, never mind DO what needs to be done.

Today I want to share a wellness tip that helps whenever you are feeling in an overwhelmed state of mind. It’ll help you feel less stressed, think clearer, and have more control over your priorities.

This productivity tip I learned from a friend through business coaching, but it applies to all areas of our lives.

It’s called the “brain dump.”

The action (which is your challenge for today) is to take all your thoughts that are taking up space and getting them all on paper. You don’t organize them, categorize them, or even make them look pretty. You are literally dumping everything that’s currently swirling in your head and write them down. It doesn’t matter what time of day, you may find this works best in the evening before bed as you plan your next day. You may enjoy this practice in the morning as you think of all the things that need to get done. Whenever you feel like a lot if going on, take a moment to brain dump.

A cluttered up mind creates stress on your body. We are working on feeling less stress and this is a great strategy to combat those feelings. This process will help you pick out the important things going on and see the other things you are able to let go.

Once everything is out on paper, I mean EVERYTHING, circle those things that are most important. Cross out anything that can go and don’t allow it to take up anymore room in your head. Organize your priorities however you need, a to-do list, or time block them into a calendar so they definitely get done.

Use this practice whenever you need to pull yourself out of overwhelm. I can’t wait to hear how this helps you today.

You got this.
