Day 13 Challenge: Sleep Deeper

Today’s challenge requires two things, essential oils and a diffuser. Two health tools that will benefit you beyond just a good night’s sleep. Any old brand of essential oils won’t do, since many are cut with synthetics and are more like perfume than from plants. It is very important to invest in high quality essential oils that focus on purity, quality, and sourcing. This is why doTERRA has always been my brand of choice and what we use in our family. You can learn more about getting started with doTERRA oils and peek at their starter collections on my Essential Oils page.

In a previous challenge, you learned about how important morning light is for benefiting your sleep at night. Today, I want you to learn about a simple sleep routine that will benefit the whole family. Today’s action will be to use essential oils that target relaxation and rest in your diffuser at bedtime. It’s an aromatherapy hack that helps your whole body unwind and prepare for a deeper sleep.

Some of my top essential oils and blends for sleep are:

  • Cedarwood

  • Serenity restful blend

  • Lavender

  • Bergamot

  • Vetiver

  • Roman Chamomile

You’ll want to get an ultrasonic diffuser that has a runtime of at least 6 hours. You can find many that run well over that timeframe and have the option of running all through the night.

The trick with setting up a bedtime routine with your diffuser and oils, is to get your diffuser running 10 minutes or so before bedtime. This will envelop the room with aromatherapy that you can walk into and immediately feel its’ calming effects. You’ll only need just a few drops of essential oils and can play around with certain individual oils to find the ones your body responds to the most for sleep.

This is a sleep routine we also utilize with our kids. Part of getting ready for bed is getting their diffusers all ready to go. They’ll add the water and essential oils and turn it on. Before they were old enough to do this on their own, it was something I did religiously. I found that when we used the diffuser at bedtime, they went to sleep faster and were much more rested in the morning.

You will feel the same positive effects as well. I can’t wait to hear how much better you sleep is tonight.

Sweet dreams.
