Benefits of Owning an Essential Oil Diffuser

Owning an essential oil diffuser is quite literally the best thing ever.

It’s funny how something as simple as adding a diffuser to your life can make living healthier way easier. Whether you’re a hardcore health nut or just dipping your toes into cleaning up your lifestyle, this is such a great starting place.

Before we talk about the main benefits of using a diffuser, let me explain what they are (and what they are not) and how to select a good one.

An essential oil diffuser and “diffusing” is the process of dispersing essential oils so that the aroma fills up the room. Through air diffusion, essential oils are able to deliver therapeutic benefits. A diffuser is different from and NOT a humidifier, which is a common misconception that they are the same thing. Humidifiers are designed to regulate moisture in the air and not to preserve the beneficial properties of essential oils as they are dispersed in the air. Look for an ultrasonic diffuser to get the job done.

So what are the benefits to owning an essential oil diffuser?

  • They create a healthy environment. Freshening up your space is easy with a diffuser and allows you to purge all those plug-in air fresheners that put out toxic chemicals into the air. When you use a pure, essential oil in a diffuser you are breathing plant based aroma and not synthetic fragrances. You’re winning.

  • They help to clean the air naturally. Put down your chemical aerosol sprayers. Diffusers gently release essential oil molecules into the air that contain natural properties to cleanse and purify. Some of my favorite ones to diffuse to cleanse the air are lemon, and blends like Citrus Bliss and Purify, which is a specifically designed cleansing blend.

  • They can help with a more restful night’s sleep. Diffusing specific oils that are calming and relaxing can provide aromatherapy that deepens sleep state and helps you feel more refreshed when you wake. Try diffusing oils like lavender, vetiver, cedarwood, or a restful blend like Serenity.

  • Likewise, they have the ability to help you feel more energized. Specific essential oils can promote clarity and help energize the body. Breathing in essential oil particles and stimulate respiratory function and the limbic system to awaken and refresh. Try diffusing essential oils like peppermint, spearmint, and citrus oils like wild orange.

  • They help to reduce stressful and anxious feelings. Stress can cause a whole host of health issues in the body and a very simple way to combat that is to diffuse oils that are calming, relaxing, or even uplifting. Many oils have a calming effect. My personal favorites are bergamot, Douglas fir, and a grounding blend called Balance.

  • They have the ability to repel insects naturally. There are many essential oils that critters can’t stand. You can experiment with single oils or blend a few together. This is helpful to deter pests in the evening at the dinner table outside, or even to keep away from certain areas of your home. We like to use oils like lemongrass, arborvitae, or even an outdoor blend called Terrashield (also great to use topically!).

  • They support respiratory health. For one, when you eliminate synthetic fragrances from your environment you’re already improving your air quality. That doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy a nice smelling home for the sake of reducing the toxic overload. Many oils can help with clearer breathing and opening up airways to support healthy respiratory function. Some of my favorites are oils like eucalyptus, cardamom, and a respiratory blend called Breathe.

  • They can help elevate the mood naturally. Many people enjoy utilizing essential oils to support their mental health as well as their physical health. The smell of an essential oil gets carried into the brain, thus affecting the limbic system that creates an emotional response. Emotions can be difficult to manage and a simple way to shift things is diffusing essential oils that are uplifting and bring on feelings of joy. Many citrus oils like wild orange, lemon, and bergamot help to promote more feelings of happiness. Two of my personal favorites are blends called Elevation and Cheer.

  • They help to boost the immune system. Many essential oils have antibacterial, antiviral, antimicrobial properties and effects which can help to protect your immune system once they are inhaled. My personal favorite to diffuse for this reason is OnGuard protective blend.

  • Diffusers help to save money. This is a big one. Sure their is an initial investment into a quality ultrasonic essential oil diffuser and high quality essential oils, but overall with pennies per drop you will find it was save you in the long run. Not to mention all of the benefits of owning a diffuser as listed above, you want to think of the costs of alternatives to something natural like diffusing essential oils and how that stacks up.

Feeling your best and making that as simple as can be is a huge benefit of owning a diffuser. We touched on a few of the most popular ones for diffusing, but as you’ll start to notice, it doesn’t stop there. Every person loves it for their own individual reasons as diffusers can enhance so much to our lifestyles. You may use it at your workplace, at home, in the classroom, or even driving in your car. The truth is once you experience the benefits you’ll be hard pressed to go without one.
