Why Zinc is Important

You may have heard a lot about zinc lately (or maybe not, so I'm extra glad you landed here)...

It is nothing new that zinc supports the immune system, but often times we forget some of the most basic, being the most important things, in helping our immune system stay strong. Vitamins and minerals play a key role in helping our bodily defenses.

It's important to have zinc on hand in times like these in supplement form, or double down on your nutrition to consume foods high in zinc. During times with your immune system is typically bombarded (cold/flu season), you'll want to be extra diligent to increase your intake of zinc.

Some of my favorite foods high in zinc are:

-Pumpkin seeds

-Spinach

-Lentils

-Cashews

-Grass-fed beef

One of the most interesting studies I have found on zinc shows it helps to inhibit viral replication. That's really powerful information that you can use to supercharge you body's immune system when fighting a viral infection!

It is important to note that zinc often times needs a "driver" into the viral cell. EGCG (green tea extract), Quercetin (found in apples, peppers, blueberries/blackberries/dark cherries, cocoa, cranberries, leafy greens, etc) help support cell signaling pathways and allows zinc basically to do it's thing to keep your immune system strong.
